Prince William and Prince Harry face differing constraints on public expression

Royal expert Richard Palmer suggests that Prince Harry possesses more freedom to speak out on political and social issues compared to Prince William. Because William is the future king, his ability to take public positions on controversial matters is limited by the requirements of his future role.

In contrast, Harry, who stepped down from official royal duties in 2020, has the latitude to support various causes to potentially improve his public image. Palmer noted that Harry could potentially follow the example of his late mother, Diana, Princess of Wales, who maintained a prominent public influence through charitable work after her divorce from King Charles III.

Separately, archival footage from April 2018 shows Prince William appearing to struggle to stay awake during an Anzac Day service at Westminster Abbey. The moment occurred just two days after the birth of his third child, Prince Louis.
