Prince William Has Never Worn a Wedding Ring Since His 2011 Marriage
Prince William has never worn a wedding ring or any other jewellery. At the time of his 2011 wedding to Catherine, a St. James’s Palace announcement noted that he would not receive a ring, a decision described by palace insiders as a matter of personal style. The Prince of Wales prefers to avoid jewellery altogether, a preference that aligns with historic royal practice—previous male royals such as Prince Philip also did not wear wedding rings. Royal commentator Eloise Parker explained that while royal women traditionally wear engagement and wedding rings, men have never been expected to do so.
The lack of a wedding band has been highlighted in media coverage of the couple’s marriage, noting that Catherine’s iconic sapphire engagement ring, originally worn by Princess Diana, is complemented by her own gold wedding band, while William remains ring‑free.
