Prince William introduces sustainable farming initiatives via Duchy of Cornwall

Prince William, the Prince of Wales, recently visited rural communities in England and Wales to address the future of agriculture and protection against extreme weather events. During his visit, he engaged in farming activities, including operating a tractor and planting trees.

Under his leadership, the Duchy of Cornwall, which spans over 52,000 hectares, aims to achieve climate neutrality by 2032. To support this, a new leasing model called the Regenerative Farm Business Tenancy (rFBT) has been introduced. This model provides tenants with 25-year contracts to offer long-term security while encouraging a transition to environmentally friendly farming methods designed to improve soil, water, and biodiversity.

Additionally, Prince William plans to sell approximately 20 percent of the Duchy, with the expected proceeds of around £500 million intended for investment in affordable housing and climate protection projects. While these initiatives aim for a nature-rich portfolio, some reports indicate that not all tenants and farmers welcome these changes.
