Prince William launches suicide-prevention toolkit for sport
Prince William and the Princess of Wales launched ‘On Your Side’, a suicide-prevention toolkit specifically designed for the sporting sector, at Everton Football Club in Liverpool on World Suicide Prevention Day.
Developed by The Royal Foundation in collaboration with the British Standards Institution and the mental health charity Chasing the Stigma, the toolkit provides a five-step GOALS framework: Get ready, Open the conversation, Ask the question, Listen and respond, and Support and signpost. The initiative aims to empower athletes, coaches, officials, and fans to recognize warning signs and initiate difficult conversations.
The rollout is supported by over 70 organizations, including The FA, the Premier League, British Cycling, Team GB, England Rugby, and the British Horseracing Authority. High-profile sporting figures such as Harry Kane, Alan Shearer, George Russell, Dame Kelly Holmes, and Dame Laura Kenny participated in the launch to promote the resource. The Princess of Wales made a surprise appearance to support the event, marking the first joint royal engagement for the couple since their summer break.
