Prince William to restructure Duchy of Cornwall estate

Prince William is initiating a significant restructuring of the Duchy of Cornwall, the historic estate that provides him with an annual private income of approximately $31 million. The plan involves selling roughly 20 percent of the estate's holdings, a move estimated by The Times to generate around $670 million.

The proceeds from these sales are intended to fund new housing developments, nature conservation projects, and renewable energy initiatives. Following the divestment, the Duchy will focus on five core areas: Cornwall, Dartmoor, the Scilly Isles, Bath, and parts of London.

This strategic shift aims to transition the Duchy from a traditional landowner into a tool for social and ecological impact. Managing Director Will Bax stated that the Duchy intends to be a strong partner in addressing social hardship and environmental issues. The estate, valued at over $1.3 billion, has funded the heir to the throne since 1337.
