Prince’s Palace New Wing receives sustainability certification
The reconstruction project of the New Wing II at the Prince’s Palace in Monaco has been awarded the Silver level ‘Sustainable Mediterranean Buildings of Monaco’ (BD2M) certification for its design phase. The certification was presented to Prince Albert II during a ceremony on 18 September 2026.
A key feature of the project is the installation of a seawater-based thermal loop, marking the first system of its kind in the Monaco-Ville district. This thalassothermal loop utilizes seawater as an energy source for heating and cooling, reducing the building's reliance on fossil fuels and optimizing energy management.
The reconstruction of the 1960s western wing aims to modernize safety, accessibility, and environmental performance while preserving the site’s historic facades and architectural identity. The project emphasizes the use of high-performance, bio-based materials, circular economy principles, and water resource management, while prioritizing the involvement of local Monegasque businesses.
