Prince's 'Purple Rain' Musical Set for Broadway Debut at New York's Majestic Theatre

A stage adaptation of Prince’s 1984 film and album “Purple Rain” is scheduled to open on Broadway at the Majestic Theatre in New York City. Preview performances are slated to begin on March 12, 2027, with a full run to follow.

The production features a new creative team led by Tony‑nominee director Saheem Ali and librettist Peter Duchan, with choreography by Ebony Williams and music supervision by Jason Michael Webb. Longtime Prince collaborators Bobby Z and Morris Hayes serve as music advisers. The show will present more than 20 of Prince’s hits, including “When Doves Cry,” “I Would Die 4 U,” “Take Me with U,” and “The Beautiful Ones.” Tickets are expected to go on sale in September.
