Prince's 'Purple Rain' Musical to Open on Broadway in 2027

Producer Orin Wolf has announced that the stage adaptation of Prince’s 1984 film and album “Purple Rain” will open on Broadway in spring 2027. Previews are scheduled to begin on March 12, 2027 at New York’s Majestic Theatre, with the official opening night on April 12, 2027.

The production will be directed by Saheem Ali and features a book by Peter Duchan. Music supervision, arrangements and orchestrations are handled by Tony‑award winner Jason Michael Webb, while choreography is by Ebony Williams. The show will include more than 20 Prince songs, among them “When Doves Cry,” “I Would Die 4 U,” “Take Me with You,” and “The Beautiful Ones.” Prince collaborators Bobby Z and Morris Hayes will serve as music advisors.

Tickets are slated to go on sale in September 2026. The musical follows a successful out‑of‑town tryout in Minneapolis in 2025 and a revamped creative team for the Broadway transfer.
