Princess Aiko visits Aomori and Tottori prefectures
Princess Aiko of Japan conducted her first visits to Aomori and Tottori prefectures in October. During her stay in Aomori, she observed various sporting events, including soft baseball and fencing, and visited the Korekawa Jomon Site. While viewing the national treasure ‘Gassho Dogu’ figurine, she noted that she had heard about its profound impact from her father, Emperor Naruhito.
In Tottori, the Princess attended the National Disaster Prevention Promotion Convention. She participated in a workshop with students focused on managing evacuation centers, considering the needs of diverse groups such as the elderly and people with disabilities. Her visit also included a trip to a vocational support facility for people with disabilities in Kurayoshi, where she experienced traditional local activities, including playing the ‘Zeni Daiko’ instrument and attempting to paint ‘Hakota’ dolls.
Observers noted the Princess's diligent approach to her duties, reporting that she continued to study briefing materials until the very end of her scheduled itinerary in Tottori.
