Oman and UK announce £1 billion investment and deepen strategic ties

During a three-day state visit by Sultan Haitham bin Tariq to the United Kingdom, the two nations announced a major investment package exceeding £1 billion. The agreement aims to accelerate economic cooperation in sectors including renewable energy, technology, space, healthcare, and financial services.

A central component of this partnership is a planned large-scale AI data centre in Salalah, spearheaded by the UK-founded company Yamna. The project’s first phase is expected to exceed £1 billion and is projected to create more than 100 highly skilled jobs in Britain through the export of technical expertise.

To support these developments, UK Export Finance is increasing its capacity for exports to Oman to £7 billion. The visit also focused on strengthening security and maritime cooperation, particularly regarding the strategic Strait of Hormuz, as both countries seek to bolster regional stability.

In a state banquet at Windsor Castle, King Charles III praised Oman’s role as a trusted mediator and diplomatic interlocutor in the Middle East. The visit marks the first time an Omani ruler has conducted a state visit to the UK in 44 years.
