Princess Astrid of Norway dies aged 94 FAST-MOVING
Princess Astrid of Norway has died at the age of 94. Her passing comes just two weeks after the death of her brother, King Harald V, and only two days after she attended his state funeral in Oslo.
King Haakon VIII expressed deep sorrow, describing his aunt as a “warm and dutiful” representative of the Royal House. He noted that she was a significant support to the family and was particularly dedicated to the care and inclusion of vulnerable members of society.
Astrid assumed the role of Norway’s First Lady at age 22 following the death of her mother, Crown Princess Märtha, in 1954. She served in this capacity until 1968 and remained a prominent figure in the monarchy for decades. Following the announcement, flags at the Royal Palace in Oslo have been lowered to half-mast.
