Princess Astrid of Norway Discharged After Heart Surgery

Princess Astrid, 94, sister of King Harald V, was hospitalized in May following heart failure and received a temporary pacemaker before undergoing heart surgery. In July the royal court reported she was receiving good care, and this week she was seen shopping in Oslo’s Frogner district with a royal guard and her chihuahua, confirming her discharge.

The health challenges have also touched other members of the Norwegian royal family: Crown Princess Mette‑Marit underwent a lung transplant and was released in July, and Queen Sonja was hospitalized earlier with heart failure but has since recovered.
