Princess Astrid of Norway to be buried in Oslo on September 23
The Norwegian Royal House has announced that the funeral for Princess Astrid will take place on Wednesday, September 23, at 1:00 p.m. at Ris Church in Oslo. The ceremony will be a more intimate and personal service compared to the state funeral held for her brother, King Harald V, and will be broadcast live for the public.
Princess Astrid passed away on September 11 at the age of 94 at Rikshospitalet. Her death comes just two weeks after the passing of King Harald V. The Princess, who served as First Lady of Norway for 14 years following the death of her mother, Crown Princess Märtha, was a significant figure in the monarchy.
Expected attendees include King Haakon VII, Queen Mette-Marit, Queen Sonja, and Crown Princess Ingrid Alexandra. Despite undergoing recent health challenges and rehabilitation following a transplant, Queen Mette-Marit has confirmed she will attend the service. The funeral will be conducted at the expense of the Norwegian state.
