Princess Diana's iconic 1981 royal wedding at St Paul's

On July 29, 1981, Princess Diana created one of the most iconic images of 20th-century royal weddings when she stepped out of a glass carriage at St Paul's Cathedral for her wedding to Prince Charles.

The event was a massive global spectacle, with approximately 750 million people estimated to have watched the ceremony on television. More than 80 broadcasting organizations from 50 countries participated in the coverage. The ceremony at St Paul's Cathedral hosted roughly 3,500 guests.

A central highlight of the occasion was Diana's wedding dress, designed by Elizabeth and David Emanuel. The ivory silk taffeta gown featured puffed sleeves, ruffles, lace, hand embroidery, sequins, and thousands of pearls. The dress was notable for its massive train, which measured approximately 7.6 meters in length.
