Princess Diana’s iconic revenge dress to be auctioned in New York

Princess Diana’s iconic “revenge dress” is set to return to auction at Sotheby’s in New York on December 9, 2026, as part of Luxury Week. The black silk off-the-shoulder creation by designer Christina Stambolian was famously worn by the late Princess of Wales on June 29, 1994, at the Serpentine Gallery in London. The outfit became a global symbol of independence and empowerment, worn hours after Prince Charles publicly admitted to infidelity during a television documentary.

Before the auction, the dress will participate in a global exhibition tour. Scheduled stops include London (September 18–24), Hong Kong (October 1–15), and Geneva (November 6–11).

Sotheby’s has provided an estimated auction price between $150,000 and $300,000. A portion of the proceeds is expected to benefit the Royal Hospital for Children in Edinburgh, specifically supporting mental health services.
