Princess Diana's Secret Investigation File Remains Sealed Until 2082

A 6,000‑page dossier compiled by French investigators after Princess Diana’s fatal 1997 Paris car crash is stored in the archives of the Paris Court of Appeal and will not be opened to the public until at least 2082. The restriction is based on Article L.213‑2 of France’s cultural heritage law, which blocks access for 75 years, and French authorities could even extend the embargo indefinitely. The file reportedly contains around 200 witness statements, toxicology reports, unpublished accident photographs and interrogation transcripts.

In a related revelation, Diana is said to have sent a heartfelt message to her longtime friend Sarah Ferguson the day before her death, seeking reconciliation after a year of silence. Ferguson’s 2011 autobiography quotes Diana asking, “Where is this Red? I want to talk to her,” referring to Ferguson’s nickname.
