Princess Diana's will leaves £70,000 to longtime butler Paul Burrell

Princess Diana’s 1997 will, valued at £21.7 million before taxes, allocated the bulk of her estate to her sons, Princes William and Harry, who could access the funds after turning 30. After debts and inheritance tax, the net amount was around £17 million (about $17 million). In addition to $1.4 million earmarked for charitable trusts, the will named Diana’s longtime butler Paul Burrell as a beneficiary, bequeathing him roughly £70,000 (about $50,000). The revelation, reported by The Guardian and other outlets, surprised the public because Burrell was a household staff member rather than a royal family member. The will also provided personal items to Diana’s daughters‑in‑law, Kate Middleton and Meghan Markle, and included sentimental gifts for her 17 godchildren.
