Princess Firyal Irshaid pursues legal action over stolen jewelry
Princess Firyal Irshaid of Jordan is undergoing a legal process in London after discovering her stolen jewelry, including a unique engagement ring, listed in an auction house catalogue.
The theft is alleged to have occurred in 2020 while the Princess was away from her Belgravia home due to COVID-19 pandemic restrictions. Her former housekeeper of 11 years, Maria Virgelina Taborda Henao, is currently on trial at Southwark Crown Court. Prosecutors claim Taborda Henao used her authorized access to the residence to steal the items.
The Princess was alerted to the theft in November 2020 by Pierre Jeannet, a partner at the high-end jeweler JAR, who informed her that her custom-made sapphire and diamond engagement ring was featured on the cover of an auction catalogue. Investigations revealed other pieces of her jewelry had also been sold through the Canterbury Auction Galleries. The Princess's nephew is also implicated for allegedly acting as a conduit for the sale of the stolen property.
