Princess Kako attends National Urban Greening Festival in Kyoto

Princess Kako of the Akishino family attended the National Urban Greening Festival in Kyoto Prefecture on October 7. During the commemorative ceremony held at Kameoka Sports Park, she expressed appreciation for those contributing to greenery projects, noting the significance of protecting and nurturing nature.

Following the ceremony, the Princess viewed a garden designed by local high school students and participated in a commemorative planting of weeping cherry trees. These trees were cultivated from the famous Gion weeping cherry in Maruyama Park. Seven of these trees are scheduled to be transplanted to various locations, including Kameoka, Nantan, and Kyotamba.

The Princess also visited Sonobe Park in Nantan City, a site recognized as one of the ‘200 Selected Natural Sceneries of Kyoto,’ where she commented on the beauty of the autumn colors.
