King Charles and Princess Kate attend Cancer Research UK 125th anniversary reception
On 2 June 2026 the King and Queen of the United Kingdom hosted a reception at St James’s Palace to mark the 125th anniversary of Cancer Research UK. King Charles III, Queen Camilla and the Princess of Wales, Kate Middleton, were joined by the Duke and Duchess of Gloucester and a range of supporters, including TV presenter Davina McCall and mathematician‑broadcaster Hannah Fry. The event featured immersive installations that highlighted how technology, such as AI, is transforming cancer research.
The reception was the first joint public appearance by Charles and Kate since both were diagnosed with undisclosed forms of cancer in 2024. Kate, who announced she was in remission in January 2025, has resumed regular royal duties and a solo overseas visit to Italy earlier in the year. Charles remains under treatment but continues as patron of the charity, a role he assumed in 2024. Kate’s attire—a red polka‑dot midi dress by Rodarte—drew additional media attention.
Both royals used the occasion to meet researchers, clinicians and volunteers, reaffirming their personal commitment to the charity’s work in prevention, diagnosis and treatment of cancer.
