Princess Lalla Meryem's birthday celebrated in Morocco
Morocco celebrates the birthday of Princess Lalla Meryem on August 26. The annual occasion highlights her ongoing commitment to advancing the status of Moroccan women and protecting children's rights, particularly those in vulnerable situations.
Throughout her career, the Princess has held numerous social leadership roles, including presiding over the Social Services of the Royal Armed Forces since 1981. She has also led the Hassan II Foundation for Moroccans Living Abroad, the National Union of Moroccan Women, and the National Observatory for Child Rights.
Her humanitarian work has earned international recognition. In 2001, UNESCO appointed her as a Goodwill Ambassador. She has also received the Grand National Order of Merit from Lebanon and the ‘Global Women Leaders’ award in 2010 for her distinguished service and solidarity.
