Princess Leonor begins political science studies at Spain's Universidad Carlos III

Princess Leonor, the 20‑year‑old heir to the Spanish throne, is set to start a degree in Political Science at the Universidad Carlos III in Getafe. A low‑key welcome day will include activities such as an outdoor paella, wheelchair basketball mini‑matches, sustainable‑fashion workshops and a prize‑giving gymkhana, allowing her to mingle with fellow students while remaining under tight security.

The royal household chose the campus because it has a smaller student body, making it easier to protect the princess. Security experts say the open, high‑traffic environment will require a more complex and discreet protection team, as images of Leonor could easily spread on social media. She will complete her military training on 10 July before joining university life.
