Princess Leonor begins Political Science studies at Carlos III University
Princess Leonor of Asturias has officially begun her university studies at the Carlos III University of Madrid (UC3M) at the Getafe campus. The heir to the Spanish throne is enrolled in a four-year Political Science degree, a choice made to prepare her for her future role as Head of State.
Her first day of classes included subjects such as Theory of Law, Social Science Research Methodology, and Fundamentals of Political Science. She was welcomed by university authorities, including Rector Ángel Arias, and aims to integrate into campus life with as much normalcy as possible, following a period of military training.
While the university seeks to maintain a routine academic environment, her presence has drawn significant media attention and crowds of onlookers. Legal experts have noted that while students may use mobile devices in common areas, the Princess's right to privacy and image protection remains a factor regarding the recording and distribution of her likeness.
