Princess Leonor begins university studies amid new security measures
Princess Leonor has begun her first year of civilian university studies in Madrid, marking a new chapter in her training as the future Queen of Spain. During the opening of the 2026/2027 academic year at the Polytechnic University of Cartagena, King Felipe VI spoke publicly about the family's transition, describing their feelings regarding her new routine as a mixture of “illusion, pride, and uncertainty.”
To ensure her safety during this period, the Spanish Ministry of the Interior has implemented specialized technological measures. A contract was awarded to Jojacar Telecomunicaciones SL to provide anti-drone detection equipment. This deployment aims to secure the airspace over the university campus, adding a layer of aerial surveillance to the existing human security detail provided by the Ministry to the Royal House.
