Princess Leonor of Spain completes military training and readies for university

Princess Leonor, 20, will finish her three‑year military programme at the General Air and Space Academy in San Javier, Murcia, on 3 June 2026. She is set to receive the Gold Medals of the Region of Murcia and Villay, along with the title of Adoptive Daughter of San Javier, adding to previous honours from Aragón, Galicia and Zaragoza. The ceremony will be attended by her parents, King Felipe VI and Queen Letizia, but the princess will speak alone.

Leonor is also undertaking a parachuting course, a distinction from her father and grandfather’s training. After her military graduation, she will join the Pope’s visit to Spain in early June alongside her sister Infanta Sofía and the King and Queen.

In the summer of 2026 she will begin university studies, with speculation about a UK, US or elite Spanish institution. Sources say she will balance a reduced royal agenda with normal campus life, under heightened security arrangements. This step marks a shift from her prior military focus to a civilian academic routine, signalling the next stage for Spain’s future queen.
