Princess Leonor's university readies disciplinary tools for unauthorized recordings

Princess Leonor of Spain will begin her Political Science degree at Universidad Carlos III in September, joining as a regular student while also being one of the most photographed members of the Spanish royal family.

The university already operates under a disciplinary regime created by a February 2022 law for public universities and its own 2023 internal regulation. These rules allow the institution to sanction students who breach conduct, including the improper use of mobile phones or recording devices. Although no specific protocol for the princess has been issued, the regulations cover misuse of audio‑visual material and can impose penalties up to expulsion. Professors note that no incidents have yet led to sanctions.
