Princess of Wales' Uncle Gary Goldsmith Recovers After Life‑Threatening Bleed, Praises Kate's Three Peaks Challenge
Gary Goldsmith, 61, the brother of Carole Middleton and uncle of Catherine, Princess of Wales, suffered a severe internal bleed caused by esophageal varices. He was rushed to hospital, where surgeons placed bands on the damaged veins to stop the bleeding and he spent two days in intensive care before beginning a longer recovery.
After his operation Goldsmith gave an interview in which he praised his niece’s courage during her cancer treatment and lauded her completion of the National Three Peaks Challenge – climbing Ben Nevis, Snowdon and Scafell Pike in 24 hours – a fundraiser for the Royal Marsden Cancer Charity. He also thanked Carole Middleton for looking after him during his illness and mentioned adopting healthier habits following the incident.
