Princess of Wales wears historic Queen Mother heirloom to London film premiere

The Princess of Wales attended the world premiere of the film ‘Digger’ at London’s Leicester Square on Tuesday, September 22. Joining Prince William for the Royal Film Performance, Catherine wore a purple Jenny Packham gown.

The centerpiece of her attire was a historic amethyst sautoir necklace, a royal heirloom believed to have been seen in public only twice in the last century. The piece was originally presented by Queen Alexandra to Lady Elizabeth Bowes-Lyon, the future Queen Mother, as a wedding gift in 1923.

The necklace features three rows of pearls accented with diamonds and amethysts, culminating in a large, heart-shaped amethyst pendant. The event was held in support of the Film and TV Charity, which provides mental wellbeing and financial assistance to industry professionals.
