Princess Yachts faces employment and training concerns
Rebecca Smith, MP for South West Devon, visited the Princess Yachts Langage site in Plymouth to observe manufacturing operations and discuss business challenges. The facility produces four yacht models, with a vessel completing the production line approximately every eight days.
During the visit, company representatives raised concerns regarding rising costs, recruitment, and the potential impact of the Government’s Employment Rights Act. Specifically, the manufacturer noted that legislative changes could affect the time available to train and assess new staff. Due to these pressures, the company is considering compressing training processes for highly skilled roles that typically require several months to master.
