Dominion Energy Q2 profit jumps as AI‑driven data center demand soars
Dominion Energy reported second‑quarter 2026 revenue of $4.48 billion, a 17.6 % year‑over‑year increase that beat analysts’ $4.04 billion estimate. Adjusted earnings per share rose to $0.79, surpassing the $0.68 forecast.
The Virginia‑based segment generated $670 million in operating earnings, up 22 % from the prior year, and contributed the bulk of the company’s earnings improvement. Demand from AI‑driven data centers in Northern Virginia pushed contracted electricity capacity to 53.8 GW as of July, an increase of 5.3 GW since December.
Higher fuel, grid‑upgrade and maintenance costs lifted operating expenses to $4.15 billion from $2.71 billion a year earlier, but regulatory benefits and rider‑equity returns offset much of the cost rise. In May, Dominion announced a $66.8 billion merger with NextEra Energy, pending regulatory approval; hearings are slated to begin on 17 November.
