Print security risks rise in Australia and New Zealand

A report by Konica Minolta Australia and Omdia reveals significant vulnerabilities in print security within Australia and New Zealand. The study found that 56 per cent of Australian and 52 per cent of New Zealand organisations experienced a print-related security incident over the past 12 months. These risks often stem from everyday workflow issues, such as uncollected documents, inconsistent authentication, or remote printing outside established safeguards.

To mitigate these risks, experts suggest a ‘Human in the Loop’ approach, which integrates technical controls with clear policies and employee training. Effective security requires that controls are simple to use and align with actual day-to-day behaviours to prevent employees from bypassing them.

In a related development, Xerox has been named a Leader in Quocirca’s Print Security Landscape 2026. The assessment highlights Xerox’s capabilities in integrated security, AI-driven features, and post-quantum cryptography readiness. Quocirca noted that print environments are now critical components of the wider cybersecurity ecosystem, requiring protection across devices, users, and content lifecycles.
