Prisca Awiti secures silver as Mexico claims three judo silvers at Santo Domingo 2026 Games

Mexican judoka Prisca Awiti was edged out in the -63 kg final at the Central American and Caribbean Games in Santo Domingo, losing by ippon to Venezuela's Anriquelis Barrios and taking the silver medal. The bout was tightly contested until Barrios landed the decisive technique in the closing seconds.

Awiti’s podium finish contributed to Mexico’s overall haul of three silver medals in judo at the 2026 Games, with fellow Mexican judokas Ulises Méndez and Gilberto Cardoso also finishing second in their categories. The result follows Awiti’s Olympic silver in Paris 2024 and a recent comeback after a ligament injury that sidelined her from the 2025 World Championships.
