Prishtina Airport controllers warn of laser threats to aircraft
Air traffic controllers at Adem Jashari International Airport in Prishtina have raised alarms regarding an increase in laser beam incidents directed at aircraft during takeoff and landing. These actions pose a significant threat to flight safety, as intense laser light can distract pilots, impair vision, or cause temporary blindness.
Reports suggest that the individuals responsible may be youths or adolescents who are unaware of the severe consequences. The incidents have not only targeted commercial aircraft but have also affected KFOR helicopters. In some instances, KFOR personnel have successfully identified suspects near the landing sites, leading to subsequent procedures.
Authorities, including the Border Police, are treating these incidents with high priority. Under Kosovo law, individuals found using lasers against aircraft could face serious legal consequences, including prison sentences ranging from one to ten years.
