Prishtina firefighters battle recurring wildfires in Bërnicë e Epërme

Firefighters in Prishtina have been battling wildfires in the mountainous area of Bërnicë e Epërme for four days. This marks the third time teams have been deployed to extinguish the flames in this location, with officials noting the fire may have been reignited or caused by human activity.

Mal Gashi, commander of the Prishtina fire brigade, stated that the difficult and impassable terrain makes the operation slow, as crews must often proceed on foot. He also highlighted a personnel shortage, noting that the brigade currently has 100 firefighters, whereas regulations for a population of Prishtina's size require 152.
