Prishtina Mayor addresses waste management crisis in capital

Prishtina Mayor Përparim Rama met with Petrit Reçica, head of the waste management company 'Pastrimi', to address the deteriorating state of waste collection in the capital. Rama acknowledged that current sanitation levels are inadequate and noted that a structural issue exists within the company's governance. Although Prishtina holds a 77.6 percent stake in 'Pastrimi', it is represented by only one of the four board members, a reform-related imbalance that limits the capital's ability to implement necessary measures.

Reçica stated that the company provides services to over 400,000 citizens but lacks support from the central government. He emphasized that waste management should be treated as a matter of national interest rather than just a local issue. Rama has scheduled a meeting with the mayors of other municipalities managed by the enterprise to discuss these systemic challenges.
