Kosovo politics: Bedri Hamza resigns as PDK leader

Bedri Hamza has announced his irrevocable resignation from the leadership of the Democratic Party of Kosovo (PDK). Hamza stated that his decision is intended to facilitate a new electoral process within the party, allowing members to determine its future direction and providing greater opportunities for youth involvement.

In his statement, Hamza emphasized that his leadership since 2020 was driven by responsibility toward the party and Kosovo rather than personal ambition. He noted that during his tenure, he focused on maintaining party unity and the trust of voters. He clarified that while he is stepping down from the chairmanship, he remains a loyal member and voter of the PDK.

Separately, Përparim Rama, the Mayor of Pristina, has issued sharp criticisms against the Vetëvendosje Movement (VV) and the central government. Rama accused the Albin Kurti-led movement of acting like a “sect” that uses intimidation and blackmail to sabotage major infrastructure projects in the capital. He denied accusations of mismanagement, asserting that his actions are transparent and pro-development.

Additionally, political tensions have surfaced within the LDK. Lutfi Haziri responded to discussions regarding Përparim Rama’s reported ambitions to lead the LDK, suggesting that internal leadership debates should not occur before the official electoral calendar is set.
