Prishtina security workers face job losses at medical centers

Approximately 50 physical security workers at Family Medicine Centers in Prishtina have lost their jobs following the expiration of a private contract in September. Workers reported being notified of their termination on the final day of their contract.

To address the immediate security gap, the Prishtina Municipality has temporarily reassigned security personnel from other municipal buildings to the medical centers. The municipality stated that the delay in securing new staff is due to ongoing tendering procedures and a lack of available funds to open new calls for private operators.

Jusuf Azemi, head of the Private Sector Workers' Union, has warned of upcoming protests and strikes in front of the Prishtina Municipality next week. Azemi expressed concern over the sudden loss of livelihoods for long-term employees and noted a broader trend of workers leaving the country.
