Prison construction updates in Argentina and Panama

Construction projects for correctional facilities are progressing at different rates in Argentina and Panama. In Coronda, Argentina, the construction of four new isolation pavilions at the Dr. César Raúl Tabares Penitentiary Unit No. 1 has reached 95% completion. The project adds 72 new cells, with each pavilion containing 18 cells and a dedicated room for guards. The work includes electrical installations, roofing, and the installation of anti-vandalism stainless steel fixtures across a total intervened area of 2,842 square meters.

In Panama, the Minister of Government, Dinoska Montalvo, indicated that the new prison in Colón may not be completed by the original 2027 deadline. The project, awarded to the Cecodsa consortium for $86.5 million, was intended to be finished within 36 months. The facility is designed to house 2,576 detainees across 8.4 hectares, featuring separate buildings for men and women, including a maternal-child home and a maximum-security pavilion.
