Prison official detained after pointing service weapon at neighbors

A prison official in Paranam has been detained following an incident where he allegedly pointed his service weapon at two teenage neighbors, aged 16 and 18, and fired a warning shot. The 34-year-old official, identified as T.W., claims he felt compelled to use his weapon after the brothers insulted him and approached him during a dispute.

However, the brothers provided a different account, stating that after a verbal altercation regarding a driving maneuver, the official returned to the scene, fired a shot into the air, and then aimed his firearm at them. The incident was captured on video.

Justice and Security Minister Harish Monorath has commented on the gravity of such actions, stating, “You only draw a weapon if you have to shoot.” Experts and instructors have noted that professional training requires maintaining composure under pressure and that a service weapon should never be used to enforce authority or intimidate during a verbal dispute. Investigations are ongoing to determine if service regulations were violated.
