Prison union warns of overcrowding as Ceuta inmates are transferred to Andalusia

The prison workers' union ACAIP-UGT has raised alarms regarding the transfer of inmates from Ceuta to various Andalusian prisons, including Albolote in Granada and Archidona in Málaga. The union warns that these transfers are being conducted to alleviate saturation in Ceuta without addressing the underlying staff shortages in the receiving facilities.

In Albolote, the union reports that the influx of preventive detainees is increasing pressure on healthcare, administrative services, and security staff. They noted that the facility is already facing challenges such as the frequent use of shared cells despite regulations favoring individual accommodation.

Regarding the Archidona facility, ACAIP-UGT warned that increasing the inmate population without reinforcing staff levels risks severe overcrowding. The union highlighted that such concentration can compromise security, foster control groups among inmates, and increase the risk of extortion and conflict, ultimately deteriorating prison coexistence.
