Prisoner in Canada receives fast food and alcohol via drone

A prisoner held in a high-security facility in Sainte-Anne-des-Plaines, Canada, was delivered McDonald’s food and alcohol via a drone. The incident occurred in a specialized section designed to hold the country’s most dangerous criminals.

Security systems failed to detect the intrusion, as motion detectors did not trigger and one or more surveillance cameras were reportedly non-functional at the time. The Canadian government has launched an investigation to determine how the drone bypassed security and why the monitoring systems failed to alert staff.

The prison workers' union, UCCO-SACC-CSN, criticized the security lapse, noting that they have long warned about drone-related smuggling. The union expressed concern that if fast food can be delivered so easily, more dangerous items such as firearms could also be smuggled into the facility.
