Pankaja Munde rejects claims regarding Gopinath Munde's political affiliations

Maharashtra Minister Pankaja Munde has rejected claims made by senior Congress leader and former Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan regarding her late father, BJP leader Gopinath Munde.

Chavan asserted that during his tenure as Chief Minister, he was aware of discussions where Gopinath Munde explored joining the Congress party. Chavan claimed that Munde had held talks with veteran leader Ahmed Patel and sought a position in the Union Cabinet as a condition for the switch. According to Chavan, while then-Congress President Sonia Gandhi gave in-principle approval, the move was blocked by then-Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, who opposed poaching opposition members to join the government.

Pankaja Munde dismissed the remarks as having “no relevance at this stage.” She maintained that her father was deeply rooted in the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), stating, “As far as I understand my father, he was born into this very ‘lotus’, the BJP, and he remained in it.” She argued it was inappropriate to suggest he was a leader who could be moved between political camps.
