Privacy messaging apps Signal and Session introduce new anonymity features

Privacy-focused messaging applications are introducing new features to enhance user anonymity. Signal is set to allow account registration without an active phone number, a feature expected to debut in the upcoming Android beta version 8.28. To prevent spam and mass account creation, users opting for this method will be required to pay a one-time fee, approximately $3, which will be processed using zero-knowledge methods to maintain privacy.

Session, an encrypted messaging app managed by the Swiss-based Session Foundation, continues to offer privacy features such as metadata protection and a decentralized server network. The application does not require a phone number or email address to create an account and utilizes a specialized network to ensure IP addresses are not disclosed to other users or servers.
