Prix Versailles announces 2026 railway architecture finalists
The Prix Versailles has announced its 2026 selection of seven railway terminals from various continents. The finalists include stations located in Australia, France, Italy, and Saudi Arabia.
Among the highlighted projects is the Town Hall underground terminal in Melbourne, Australia, which features a large lobby supported by eight columns designed to resemble tree trunks under a copper-toned vaulted ceiling. In France, the expansion of the Part-Dieu station in Lyon is recognized for doubling its surface area to manage high passenger volumes and connections, reinforcing its role as a major European transport hub.
The international architectural award, held at the UNESCO headquarters in Paris since 2015, is evaluated by a jury of architects, designers, and artists. The jury assesses projects based on architectural quality, innovation, sustainability, and their connection to the surrounding environment. The final winners for the Prix Versailles, Interior, and Exterior titles will be announced in December.
