Priyadarshan details creative approach to upcoming film Haiwaan

Director Priyadarshan has revealed his creative approach to the upcoming thriller Haiwaan, an adaptation of his Malayalam film Oppam. To ensure the new version is a fresh interpretation rather than a recreation, Priyadarshan deliberately prevented the cast from watching the original film during production.

Actor Boman Irani confirmed this approach, stating that the director refused to let the cast see Oppam to avoid influencing their performances. Irani noted that while he eventually watched parts of the original on his own, the new film remains distinct.

Priyadarshan also discussed the casting of the lead roles, noting that Saif Ali Khan was his initial choice for the character Shyam. Akshay Kumar was cast after expressing interest in the project, providing an opportunity to portray a darker, more villainous character. The film, produced by KVN Productions and Thespian Films, is scheduled for a worldwide theatrical release on September 11, 2026.
