B. Nagendra resigns from Karnataka Cabinet amid Valmiki Corporation scam allegations
Karnataka Minister B. Nagendra has resigned from both his Cabinet position and his seat as an MLA following allegations of financial irregularities within the Maharshi Valmiki Scheduled Tribes Development Corporation. The controversy involves the alleged misappropriation of approximately 89.63 crore rupees from a total fund of 187 crore rupees intended for the welfare of Scheduled Tribes. The matter gained significant attention following the suicide of the corporation's accounts superintendent, P. Chandrashekaran, who left a note alleging unauthorized fund transfers.
Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar defended Nagendra, stating the resignation was a voluntary move to prevent embarrassment to the Congress party. Shivakumar characterized the allegations as false and politically motivated by the opposition. Conversely, the BJP and JD(S) have intensified their protests, with opposition leaders describing the resignation as a victory in their campaign against corruption. Nagendra, visibly emotional during his announcement, denied any wrongdoing and claimed he was being targeted due to his identity as a Dalit leader.
