Priyanka Chopra joins Oscar-qualified short film We Were Here

Actress and producer Priyanka Chopra Jonas has joined the Indian short film ‘We Were Here’ as an executive producer. The project, written and directed by Pranav Bhasin, is currently entering its Academy Awards campaign after qualifying for Oscar consideration via a win at the Palm Springs International ShortFest.

The film follows three retired men in a small Indian town who protest the rise of automation by impersonating household appliances. The narrative explores themes of technology, employment, and the fear of human obsolescence, particularly when one of the men's children joins an artificial intelligence company.

‘We Were Here’ has received over 20 awards across more than 80 international film festivals, including honors at South by Southwest (SXSW) and the Clermont-Ferrand International Short Film Festival. The film has been acquired by The New Yorker and is scheduled to premiere on the publication’s official YouTube channels.
