Priyanka Gandhi Vadra accuses ECI and BJP of treason over voter roll allegations
Congress MP Priyanka Gandhi Vadra has accused the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Election Commission of India (ECI) of serious misconduct regarding the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls. Speaking in her Wayanad constituency, she alleged that 13 crore voters have been deleted from the rolls.
Priyanka Gandhi stated that if Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar was aware of election manipulation and permitted it, such actions would constitute “treachery to the nation” and “an act of treason.” She noted that her brother, Rahul Gandhi, has repeatedly presented evidence regarding alleged biases and injustices within the ECI.
The controversy follows reports that Election Commissioners Sukhbir Singh Sandhu and Vivek Joshi had recorded objections concerning electoral roll revisions and information technology systems. While the ECI has rejected claims of an institutional rupture, stating that differing views are a standard part of the multi-member body's deliberations, the Congress party is calling for a formal investigation to ensure public confidence in the democratic process.
