Priyanka Gandhi Vadra condemns saffron jersey for Indian hockey team

Congress MP Priyanka Gandhi Vadra said that changing the Indian hockey team's jersey colour to saffron, or attempting to rewrite history, cannot alter the country's soul. She accused the ruling BJP and the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) of trying to replace the traditional blue kit with a saffron one, and warned that such moves would not change the values of truth, non‑violence and brotherhood that underpin India.

Hockey India announced that the men's and women's squads will wear a saffron‑coloured jersey at the upcoming World Cup in the Netherlands and Belgium, saying the change was needed for better visibility and to honour the national flag. Former captain Vira​n Rasik​na and other fans have questioned the decision, while opposition leaders, including Priyanka Gandhi, have used it to criticize the government.
