Priyanka Kakkar leaves AAP to join Congress

Priyanka Kakkar, the former national spokesperson for the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), has officially joined the Indian National Congress. The move, announced during a press conference in Delhi, also saw former Uttar Pradesh MLA Shyam Sundar Sharma and journalist Rajat Rakesh Tandon join the Congress party.

Kakkar criticized AAP leadership, specifically citing a departure from the party’s original principles. She noted that while the party initially promised leaders would not use official bungalows or cars, they have since transitioned to using private planes and helicopters. She also expressed dissatisfaction with the party’s recent leadership appointments, alleging that individuals without grassroots experience are being given high-ranking positions in states like Punjab.

During her induction, Kakkar praised Rahul Gandhi, describing him as an “authentic leader” who speaks with truth and resilience. She also voiced support for Gandhi’s campaign regarding Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar, alleging concerns over voting rights. The defection is viewed as a significant political shift in Delhi's landscape ahead of upcoming elections.
